End goal

The end goal of education is to provide the resources and environment so that each individual is equipped with the knowledge and skills to live life intentionally. This can be achieved through the following actions.

Action 1

To reassess the end goal of today’s education and evaluate whether it is currently achieved. The endorsers of the Education Manifesto agree that the goal of education is to ensure the maturity of each individual on several levels: mental, emotional, social, financial, physical and spiritual. It is this that we call holistic education: education which addresses each layer of us, as human beings.

Action 2

To define, for each type of maturity (see Action 1), how it looks like, how to measure it and the resources to achieve it. Understanding how each type of maturity looks like will support each child to develop an adult vision for him/herself.

Action 3

To review and update the existing curriculum in order to create a living curriculum that will ensure that the end goal of education is achieved. This includes both the subject matters and the ways of teaching them. Because not everyone learns the same way!

Action 4

To define a split of responsibilities between what skills and competencies should be taught in schools and what is best to be taught at home within the family and close community.

Action 5

To research and define per layer of education the suitable subjects (i.e. kindergarten, primary school, secondary school etc.). Some topics are suitable for children even if very young, while others need a more mature emotional, social and mental state in order to be grasped.

Action 6

To develop a measurement and self-evaluation system which enables to measure one’s progress against the vision one choses and holds for themselves. This will be linked to the level of maturity defined in Action 1 and shift the focus from maximum grades and unhealthy competition.
